GCAP – The Global Call to Action against Poverty is the world’s largest anti-poverty alliance, whose organizations collectively represent more than 150 million people around the world. This is an alliance of both the North and South comprised of: faith groups, women’s groups, trade unions, youth organisations, international NGOs, grassroots movements and numerous other civil society groups. Together, they form the backbone of the national campaigns.

GCAP was initiated in 2005 to pressure world leaders to act on poverty and sct01_p04hold them accountable for commitments they have made regarding debt, trade and aid. Currently, millions of people are united in a single purpose – to end poverty now.

GCAP is a campaign which asks every citizen of planet Earth to add their voice to demands calling for a stop to poverty around the globe – and to make these demands heard by world and local leaders everywhere. Uniting this diverse array of global citizens is the call for a substantial shift in national and international policies that will eliminate poverty and achieve and exceed the Millennium Development Goals.
